Beyond connectivity, Namibia is focusing on strategic legal and operational reforms. The implementation of a 5G strategy is a key milestone, promising to expand digital infrastructure and revolutionize machine-to-machine telecommunications across all economic sectors.
Securing the Digital Future
Namibia is taking proactive measures to secure its digital future. The Data Protection Bill has undergone modifications and is now awaiting final legislative scrutiny. Additionally, an expert has been appointed to finalize the Cybercrime Bill by the end of November. Theofelus also highlighted the review and update of the National Broadband Policy. The new policy aims to increase the minimum national broadband speed target from 2 megabits per second (Mbps) to a significant 25 Mbps. To tackle immediate cybersecurity challenges, Theofelus noted that the Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team is fully operational. This team plays a crucial role in coordinating cyber defense efforts nationwide, ensuring a swift and unified response to potential threats.

In addition to its digital infrastructure initiatives, Namibia is also fostering its creative economy. The Namibia Film Commission is set to pilot two new film hubs in the Zambezi and Oshikoto regions, providing support and resources to local filmmakers and artists.
